Staff Retention

Staff retention is a management responsibility. Staff turnover is very rarely the fault of the staff; it is an indicator of management malfunction. Staff usually leave because either they were inappropriately recruited, or perceive that the work is not what was discussed on recruitment. Both are solely management responsibilities. The Registered Provider will identify and quantify staff retention as a key policy objective, and support and train managers to achieve that objective. A coordinated and planned approach will be undertaken in order to maximise the retention of staff • All managers will understand that staff retention is a strategic management issue, and that successful retention requires a thorough understanding of the purpose of certain personnel policies and procedures (listed below). The Registered Provider will ensure that managers are supervised and performance managed against reasonable staff retention targets.
